DISARMING DESIGN MAKES BAGS FOR PRINCE CLAUS FUND
4 December 2019
All over the world there are extraordinary people active in the cultural field, many are working in areas where cultural expression faces challenges. Each year the Prince Claus Fund honours a select group of these individuals and organisations whose excellent work is having a positive impact on their societies, and their excellent, ground-breaking work in fields of culture and development.
For the Prince Claus Awards 2019, Disarming Design from Palestine was invited to design this year’s bags for the awards ceremony. Palestinian designer Qusai Saify to developed the bags, based on the concept he developed together with Jordanian fashion designer Mariam S. Shukri during our create shop in Amman.
uncovering hidden beauty
Behind the folds of this handmade bag, beauty unveils itself. Underneath every corner is hand embroidery based on villagers patterns, representing lost memories brought together in one place and stitched with dedication. It is created and inspired by designers and artisans from Palestine and the Gaza Camp in Jerash (JO). The more time we spent together, the more stories we unveiled.
